Nearly 20 Years After His Death, Musician’s Body Exhumed to Settle Paternity Dispute
Nearly 20 years after his death, the body of Ugandan musician Paul Job Kafeero was exhumed for DNA testing to determine which of the 25 people claiming to be his children were biologically his.
The legendary musician died in 2007 at the age of 36.
For almost two decades, competing claims by children and their families led to a prolonged legal battle over his multi-billion-shilling estate, including land, houses, and music royalties.
To resolve the dispute, a Ugandan court ordered that his remains be exhumed. Bone and tissue samples were collected for DNA analysis.
His remains were exhumed on 1 June 2026, and the DNA results were released on 25 June 2026.
The tests confirmed that 4 of the 25 claimants were his biological children, while the remaining 21 were not biologically related to him.
The case highlights the importance of resolving inheritance disputes through legal and scientific means rather than assumptions.
