Terrorists Invade Kwara Community, Attempt To Kidnap Traditional Ruler; Hunters, Soldiers Repel Attack As Two Residents Sustain Injuries

Ilorin, Kwara State– Suspected terrorists believed to be bandits on Thursday evening invaded Yaru community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State in a failed attempt to kidnap the traditional ruler, the Oniyaru of Yaru, leaving two residents injured and throwing the community into panic.

Security sources exclusively told Afrika Eyes that the heavily armed assailants stormed the community on Thursday evening but met stiff resistance from a combined team of local hunters, vigilantes and military personnel, who successfully repelled the attack.

According to one of the security sources, the suspected bandits were unable to carry out their mission of abducting the monarch after the security operatives and local defenders confronted them.

“The bandits were repelled. Only two injuries were suffered by residents,” the source said.

The source added that although the attackers failed in their mission, the entire Yaru community has been gripped by fear following the attempted abduction.

“The whole community is in a panicking mood. We learned they came for the Oniyaru of Yaru, but they failed,” the source said.

The source further disclosed that local hunters, vigilantes and soldiers worked together to repel the attackers before they could escape from the community.

“Both hunters/vigilantes and soldiers repelled them,” the source added.

The latest attack came barely two days after another kidnapping incident was recorded in Gaa Ogele, a nearby community situated between Igbaja and Yaru in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

According to another security source, three persons were abducted during the earlier attack in Gaa Ogele.

“Two days ago, there was a similar incident at Gaa Ogele. Three persons were kidnapped,” the source told Afrika Eyes.

The source identified the suspects as members of the Fulani-Bororo group but noted that certain developments surrounding the incident had raised suspicion among security operatives.

“Ogele is in-between Igbaja and Yaru. They are Fulani-Bororo,” the source said.

“But something is suspicious about them. When hunters, Forest Guards and AKS visited in the morning, the families refused to cooperate. Rather, they preferred to remain silent about it.”

The back-to-back attacks have heightened security concerns in Ifelodun Local Government Area, with residents expressing fears over the growing activities of armed bandits and kidnappers in communities across the area.
