Ogun records major milestones as oil exploration advances on Eba Island
Following the Federal Government’s grant of Frontier Exploration Status to Ogun State through the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, active oil exploration activities have commenced on Eba Island, with key regulatory approvals and early-stage field developments already completed.
According to project updates, significant progress has been achieved, including the successful completion of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), as well as Bathymetric, Topographical, and Geotechnical Surveys.
All necessary statutory approvals have also been secured from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC)) and the Federal Ministry of Environment.
Civil works have commenced on site, while well intervention and re-entry equipment has already been mobilized, marking a major step forward in unlocking the hydrocarbon potential of the frontier acreage.
A project representative noted during site activities:
“As you can see, site preparation is ongoing, which will not pave way for proper drilling.”
The representative further described the resource potential, stating:
“The oil is arguably the best you can get in Nigeria, in sub-Sahara Africa, in the whole world.”
He also highlighted the peaceful community environment supporting the project:
“Through all the time, all the while we’ve been here, it’s been very calm and they are welcoming, they are accommodating… so this shows their eagerness towards the success of this very project and that’s quite commendable of them.”
Commending leadership efforts, he added praise for state and federal authorities:
“Kudos to the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, for such visionary leadership and more importantly, kudos to the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for such synergy…”
He further expressed optimism about the project’s long-term impact:
“I know by the time we are done doing this, it will add tremendously to the development of the nation at large.”
The project team reaffirmed commitment to responsible resource development aimed at creating jobs, attracting investment, generating sustainable revenue, and positioning Ogun State as a key player in Nigeria’s energy sector, while assuring continuous updates as the project progresses.
