A shocking investigation by the Presidency has allegedly uncovered an elaborate scheme involving a man identified as Prince Adeniyi Matthew, who is accused of creating and operating a fictitious federal government agency while presenting himself as a senior government official.
According to findings released by the Presidency, Matthew allegedly established a fake agency known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and appointed himself as its Director-General without any legal backing or presidential approval.
The investigation further alleges that he secured office space within the Federal Secretariat, opened a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) account in the agency’s name, and succeeded in obtaining a budget allocation of ₦1,302,978,784 in the 2026 Appropriation.
The Presidency also claims that the suspect allegedly convened meetings involving foreign ambassadors, held strategic sessions with ministers and other government officials, and even represented Nigeria at international conferences under the guise of heading the non-existent agency.
The revelations have sparked widespread concern over possible lapses in government verification processes and oversight, raising questions about how an allegedly fictitious agency operated within official circles for an extended period.
Earlier, the Presidency issued a statement distancing the Federal Government from the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, describing it as an illegal and non-existent entity.
Authorities have indicated that investigations into the matter are ongoing, with appropriate legal action expected against those found culpable.
The development has generated significant public interest, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough probe to determine how the alleged fraud was executed and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
