Tension as Angry APC Youths Allegedly Descend on Governor’s Appointees, Beat them Blue Black
Tension engulfed Gboko on Wednesday following the alleged attack on two appointees of Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, by aggrieved APC youths during the party’s Assembly primary election.
The officials involved are Hon. James Tor, Special Adviser to the Governor on Politics and Mobilization as well as Point Man for Gboko Local Government Area, and Hon. Smart Girgi.
According to reports from the scene, the duo was allegedly confronted by a group of angry APC youths who accused them of attempting to make away with materials meant for the primary election.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the situation quickly degenerated into a physical altercation after the youths intercepted the officials and accused them of trying to manipulate the electoral process.
The two appointees were reportedly assaulted before security personnel intervened to restore order.
Some of the protesting youths alleged that they were determined to resist any attempt to compromise the integrity of the primary election, insisting that the era of electoral manipulation was over.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Hon. James Tor nor Hon. Smart Girgi had issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
Similarly, the Benue State chapter of the APC had yet to comment on the incident.
