“Happy Father’s Day to My Unfairly Detained Husband” – El-Rufai’s Wives Breaks Silence, Sends Emotional Message Over Detention Saga
One of the wives of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly expressed support for her husband while lamenting his continued detention.
Hadiza El-Rufai made the statement on her X account on Sunday as she marked Father’s Day. In a brief message, she combined a birthday greeting to herself with a Father’s Day tribute to her husband.
“Happy birthday to me. Happy Father’s Day to my husband, who is being unfairly detained,” she wrote.
El-Rufai has remained in custody since February 18 while facing prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over an alleged N432 billion money laundering case. The charges stem from a petition submitted by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
According to the anti-corruption agency, the former governor is being held based on a court remand order issued in March.
Although he was temporarily released to attend the burial of his mother in March, El-Rufai has spent approximately 120 days in detention as legal proceedings continue.
