PDP, Accord Accuse APC Of Plot To Obtain Unclaimed PVCs Ahead Of Osun Governorship Election
According to the parties, they had received what they described as credible intelligence suggesting that some political actors were pressuring electoral officials to release unclaimed PVCs in bulk.
The political atmosphere ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State has intensified, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Accord Party have accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to gain access to unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the state.
The opposition parties, in a joint statement issued on Sunday, June 21, 2026, alleged that there were moves to improperly obtain thousands of PVCs that have not yet been collected by registered voters, describing the alleged plan as a potential threat to the credibility of the electoral process.
The Osun state governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026.
The statement was jointly signed by the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, and his Accord Party counterpart, Victor Akande.
According to the parties, they had received what they described as credible intelligence suggesting that some political actors were pressuring electoral officials to release unclaimed PVCs in bulk. They alleged that the cards were intended for individuals they described as “imported voters” allegedly mobilised during recent voter registration exercises.
They warned that any arrangement allowing political actors to take possession of unclaimed voter cards would undermine established electoral procedures and violate provisions of the Electoral Act.
The parties insisted that PVC collection must remain strictly personal, stating that only registered voters should be allowed to collect their cards in person.
The PDP and Accord further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the electoral umpire, to ensure full transparency in the handling and distribution of unclaimed PVCs.
They urged the commission to publicly clarify its procedures and safeguard the integrity of the process ahead of the election.
The statement read in part: “We have our eyes on the process and we will not allow the integrity of the electoral system to be compromised. Any attempt to hand over unclaimed PVCs to any political party will be resisted through all lawful means available.”
The parties also disclosed plans to request official records from INEC regarding PVC distribution and to compare them with independent data in their possession, insisting that accountability was necessary to prevent potential electoral malpractice.
They further referenced past electoral experiences in the state, warning that Osun State should not become a testing ground for any form of electoral manipulation.
The development comes amid tension in the buildup to the poll, where incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is expected to seek re-election amid intensified political mobilisation by opposition parties.
There have been accusations and counter accusations by different parties ahead of the August governorship election in Osun state.
