United States President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran, threatening further military action if Tehran fails to rein in groups allied to it in the Middle East, despite recent diplomatic efforts aimed at ending tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran.

In a statement on Sunday, Trump declared: “Iran must immediately stop their highly paid proxies in Lebanon from causing trouble. If they don’t, we will hit them very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder.”

The warning comes amid renewed tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border and follows concerns that hostilities involving Hezbollah could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts in the region.

Earlier, Israel’s Foreign Affairs Ministry wrote on X, “While Israel and Lebanon pursue peace talks, Hezbollah keeps firing – seeking to derail diplomacy, tighten Iran’s grip on Lebanon, and destabilize the region.”

The ministry added, “Israel will uphold the ceasefire if Hezbollah stops its attacks. Like any sovereign nation, Israel has the right to defend its citizens.”

The latest escalation comes despite a previously announced ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah that was expected to take effect on Friday, according to a senior United States official.

The truce was seen as a potentially significant step toward easing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border after months of hostilities.

The official, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, confirmed that both sides had accepted the ceasefire arrangement following renewed exchanges of fire earlier in the day.

“Hezbollah and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire,” the official said, adding that negotiators from the United States and Qatar worked out the deal with assistance from Iran.

“We understand that after the exchange of fire earlier today, Israel and Hezbollah are now in a ceasefire,” the official added.

Trump’s latest threat also comes days after reports emerged of a diplomatic breakthrough between Washington and Tehran.

Previously, SaharaReporters reported that Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had electronically signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

The agreement, known as the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” was announced by Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, who described it as a historic diplomatic achievement.

Announcing the development on Thursday, June 18, 2026, Sharif said, “I am honoured to announce that the historic ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ has been electronically signed today between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Memorandum has been signed by honourable Presidents of both the countries and also endorsed by me as the mediator.”

According to Sharif, the agreement reflects the commitment of both governments to resolving the conflict through diplomacy.

“The signing of this agreement at the highest level of the respective governments demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict,” Sharif stated.

He further disclosed that, “Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step, Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade.”

The development was also confirmed by the Iranian Embassy in India, which announced on X on Thursday, June 18, 2026, that “President Pezeshkian and his US counterpart Trump signed the MoU between Tehran and Washington digitally and remotely.”

Trump’s renewed warning against Iran-backed groups in Lebanon has now raised questions about the durability of the emerging diplomatic framework and whether recent ceasefire efforts can withstand growing regional tensions.
