According to a report published by The Observer on Saturday, Starmer is said to have determined that remaining in office is no longer a viable option following a series of consultations with senior Cabinet members, political aides, Labour Party donors and trade union representatives.

The report indicates that increasing scrutiny of his leadership and concerns about his influence within the Labour Party have contributed to the situation.

However, the development remains uncertain, as neither the prime minister nor Downing Street has issued an official statement confirming the report.

Newsweek said it contacted Starmer’s office through its contact form on Saturday evening seeking comment.

The Observer reported that Starmer, who became prime minister in 2024, is preparing what has been described as an “orderly exit” from Downing Street, including a defined schedule for stepping down.

Senior Labour Party figures cited by the newspaper expect an announcement as early as Monday. Such a move could set in motion either a leadership contest or an interim leadership arrangement, depending on the structure of the transition process.
