We have always enjoyed police support says AFUED VC.
The Vice-Chancellor Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has acknowledged support rendered to the institution by the Nigeria police, stating that the development has strengthened cordial relationship between the institution and the security agency.
Prof. Popoola made the statement on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, during a courtesy visit made to the office of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Funbi Fagun police division, Ondo, Ondo State, Mr. Ogini Cornelius, a Superintendent of Police(SP).
The University Administrator described police as very important in society, noting that its contributions to maintenance of peace and protection of lives and property of citizens cannot be underestimated in the nation.
He said : “The police is very important to us. They are not just our friends, they are also indispensable. We are partners in progress and can work together for peace and security in our institution. We want to thank you for giving us this opportunity to visit you, and we also want to appeal that this cordial relationship should continue” the VC remarked.
Prof. Popoola expressed appreciation to men and officers of the Nigeria police Funbi Fagun division for identifying with the institution through provision of adequate security especially during the holding of students union elections and other social events organised in the University, stating that the development has elevated harmonious relationship between the institution and the security agency to higher level.
On the current security situation in the country and the need for effective policing of the University considering its vast land mass, Prof. Popoola, pleaded with the Divisional Police Officer Funbi Fagun police division, to provide additional security personnels to the institution, stating that the move would help in complementing activities of the University’s security men.
His words: “However, there are things we cannot do on our own. Looking at the security situation in the country today, the security personnels we have in our University may not be able to cover all areas because our University environment is very big, we have bushes all over the place, hence, to secure it, we need help that goes beyond what our security people can do. These are places where we need your men, maybe once a while, you can help us to comb the bushes and make sure they are safe. So, we need your support in this regard’ he stated.
Responding, the DPO Funbi Fagun police division Ondo, Mr Ogini Cornelius, expressed appreciation to Prof. Popoola for the courtesy visit and gave assurance that the police division under his leadership would continue to collaborate with the institution in the area of intelligence gathering just as he pledged to redouble efforts in crime control and prevention with the aim of securing lives and property of members of the University community and areas of responsibility within the division.
The Funbi Fagun police division head identified lack of functional patrol vehicles as one the obstacles affecting police operations in the division, he, therefore, appealed to public spirited individuals, corporate organizations as well as religious bodies and Non- governmental organisations, to come to the aid of the division in its efforts at tackling crime and ensure protection of lives and property of people in the community.
The brief ceremony which held in the office of the DPO had in attendance the Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, AFUED Mrs. Oluseto Olatuyi, some staff of the Directorate as well as Head security unit AFUED, Mr Ebenezer Fadowo.
