IGP Disu Appoints CSP Anietie Iniedu As New Police Spokesperson
A native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, the newly appointed police spokesman holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment, announced on Friday, June 19, 2026, by the outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid, marks a new chapter in the leadership of the Force Public Relations Department, which serves as the primary communication channel between the Nigeria Police Force and the public.
According to the statement, CSP Iniedu is a seasoned police officer with extensive experience in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, institutional accountability and administration.
A native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, the newly appointed police spokesman holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo.
The statement also noted that he has undergone several professional trainings in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communication and intelligence analysis.
Before his latest appointment, CSP Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. In that role, he coordinated public complaint management and spearheaded initiatives designed to strengthen transparency, accountability and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
The statement noted that his tenure at the CRU was marked by efforts aimed at improving citizens’ engagement with the police and enhancing the Force’s responsiveness to complaints and concerns raised by members of the public.
CSP Iniedu also previously served as the Public Relations Officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State. Beyond his communication-related assignments, he has held several operational and administrative positions across different parts of the country.
His previous appointments include Operations Officer at the Maisandari Division in Yobe State Command, Area Crime Officer at the Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, and Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters.
He was also said to have served as Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa, Abuja, as well as Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room, where he supervised the coordination and dissemination of crime and security information nationwide.
The Inspector-General of Police expressed confidence in the ability of CSP Iniedu to effectively lead the Force Public Relations Department.
According to the statement, the IGP believes that the officer’s vast experience and professional background will “further enhance the Force’s strategic communication efforts and strengthen public engagement in support of ongoing policing reforms and operational successes.”
The appointment takes immediate effect as CSP Iniedu assumes responsibility for managing the public image and communication strategy of the Nigeria Police Force.
