Popular Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has taken a swipe at former presidential aide Reno Omokri following comments he made regarding his delayed resumption of duties as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Omokri addressed reports surrounding his failure to assume office in Mexico. He dismissed claims that Mexican authorities had rejected him, insisting that such narratives were being pushed by political opponents.
According to Omokri, his delayed resumption was largely due to the ongoing FIFA World Cup being jointly hosted by the United States and Mexico, adding that the circumstances surrounding the tournament had contributed to the situation.
Reacting to the interview, Davido appeared to mock Omokri in a post shared on his Instagram Story.
The singer referred to Omokri as a “dog and fowl,” writing:

Nigerian music superstar Davido has earned praise online after using his platform at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert to draw global attention to the plight of abducted school children and teachers from Oyo State.
While performing at the concert held at the Crypto.com Arena on June 10, 2026, the award-winning singer wore a custom-made jacket bearing the names of 39 abducted schoolchildren and seven teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The back of the jacket carried a powerful message: “Bring Them Home.”
The gesture quickly sparked reactions on social media, with many Nigerians commending the singer for spotlighting the issue on an international stage and calling for the safe return of the victims.
Davido’s latest advocacy comes weeks after he addressed criticism over his relationship with Seyi Tinubu. Responding to claims that he was being performative in speaking out about insecurity in Nigeria, the singer clarified that he is not part of any political group and has maintained a friendship with the president’s son for years.
According to Davido, their friendship does not stop him from expressing his concerns about issues affecting Nigerians, adding that he frequently contacts Seyi Tinubu to voice his frustrations.
The singer has also been vocal on other political matters. Recently, he publicly criticized former Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, describing him as “the most desperate politician in the world,” although he did not provide details about the disagreement.
Over the years, Davido has become increasingly involved in political conversations, particularly in Osun State, where he actively campaigned for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the gubernatorial election.
Following Adeleke’s victory, the singer openly celebrated the outcome and has continued to support his administration. In 2024, he publicly applauded his uncle over the completion of a major building project in the state.
Davido also took a keen interest in the 2024 Edo State governorship election, questioning certain directives issued to voters and criticizing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
