Gunmen Attack NIPSS, Kill Three Security Operatives
Suspected gunmen on Monday night launched a deadly attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State, killing three security operatives during an apparent attempt to breach the nation’s premier policy and strategic research institution.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the vicinity of the institute under the cover of darkness, triggering a fierce confrontation with security personnel stationed at the facility. The operatives reportedly engaged the assailants in a gun battle, successfully preventing them from gaining access to the institute’s main premises.
However, the attack came at a heavy cost, as three security personnel lost their lives in the line of duty while defending the institution. Their sacrifice is being hailed as a demonstration of courage and commitment to national security.
NIPSS, located in Kuru, is regarded as Nigeria’s highest policy think tank and serves as a training ground for top government officials, military officers, business leaders, and policymakers. The institution plays a crucial role in shaping national policies and strategic development initiatives.
Security agencies have reportedly intensified efforts to track down those responsible for the attack. Additional security personnel have been deployed to the area, while investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the assault and identify the perpetrators.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over security challenges in parts of Plateau State and the need for enhanced protection of critical national institutions. Residents of nearby communities have also expressed fears over the growing threat posed by armed groups operating in the region.
Authorities are yet to release the identities of the slain operatives, while official statements are expected as investigations continue.
The attack marks another troubling security incident in Plateau State, underscoring the persistent challenges facing security agencies in safeguarding lives, property, and strategic national assets.
