APC Crisis Festers In Lagos As Council Chairman’s Driver Allegedly Attacks Party Members

Akibu Bakare, who is identified as the driver to the Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Hon. Emilagba Jubril Kolawole, has been accused of attacking and injuring two members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over alleged political differences within the party.
According to information made available to SaharaReporters, the victims, Oluwasegun Olugbodi and his brother, Oluwafemi Olugbodi, were assaulted in an unprovoked attack linked to internal political disagreements ahead of local political contests.
A source familiar with the incident told SaharaReporters that tensions arose after the brothers reportedly chose to support a different APC candidate from the one allegedly backed by Bakare and his associates.
The source stated that the disagreement later degenerated into violence, resulting in the physical assault of Oluwasegun Olugbodi, who sustained serious injuries.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows Oluwasegun with his head heavily bandaged, while one side of his ear appeared severely injured following the incident.
“The attack was completely unprovoked and appears to have been motivated by political differences within the APC. The victims were allegedly targeted because they supported a different candidate,” the source said.
According to the source, the situation escalated further, leading to a violent confrontation during which Oluwasegun suffered injuries and visible bloodshed.
It was also gathered that video evidence of the incident exists and may be presented to law enforcement authorities as part of efforts to investigate the matter and facilitate possible prosecution.
In a petition and complaint submitted to relevant authorities, the complainant expressed deep concern over what he described as politically motivated violence and intimidation.
He warned that such actions undermine democratic rights, threaten public peace, and discourage citizens from freely participating in the political process.
The complainant further stressed that individuals should not be subjected to harassment, intimidation, or physical attacks for exercising their constitutional rights to political association and expression.
He called on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations, invite all parties involved for questioning, and ensure that justice is served without bias.
The complainant also requested adequate protection for himself and members of his family, citing fears of further threats, harassment, or attacks.
The petition called for urgent intervention by security authorities in the interest of justice, public safety, and the rule of law.
