Nigerian Govt Arraigns Over 400 Terrorism Suspects In Abuja Months After Securing 386 Convictions In Mass Trial

The Nigerian Government has arraigned more than 400 terrorism suspects before various courts at the Federal High Court complex in Abuja.

The suspects are facing charges bordering on terrorism, aiding and abetting insurgent activities, as well as terrorism financing.

The prosecution is being led by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi (SAN), alongside a team of federal prosecutors.

The Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), is also part of the prosecution team handling the cases.

The mass trial comes just months after a similar exercise conducted in April 2026, during which the Office of the Attorney General prosecuted 508 terrorism suspects.

Terrors

At the conclusion of that trial, the government secured 386 convictions, while eight defendants were discharged and two others were acquitted.

However, several of the convicted persons were handed prison sentences of up to 20 years.

Meanwhile, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, constituted a special panel of judges to hear and determine the cases.

While the Attorney General’s office is representing the Federal Government in the prosecutions, legal representation for indigent defendants is being provided by the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria.

Unlike previous mass terrorism trials that were conducted at a military facility in Kainji, Niger State, the current proceedings are taking place at the Federal High Court complex in Abuja.
