Court Auctions Ex Rep member Properties Over Unpaid $709,238 Debt
A court has begun auctioning properties belonging to former House of Representatives member Sani Sha’aban to recover an outstanding debt of $709,238 and N11.2 million owed to businessman Umar Faruk Abdullahi.
Four properties in Zaria have already been sold, including lands and structures located opposite Therbow Secondary School, on Churchill Road GRA, at MTD Junction GRA, and Mazari Nails Limited along the Kaduna Kano Expressway.
The debt originated from a 2018 interest free loan of $1 million and N11.2 million allegedly given to Sha’aban to secure his release from detention in Dubai. Court records indicate he repaid $290,762 but failed to settle the remaining balance.
After losing appeals at the Sharia Court of Appeal and Kaduna High Court, five properties used as collateral were ordered forfeited. The remaining property, located at No. 48 Yusuf Road, Bompai, Kano, is scheduled for auction on June 13.
The Kaduna High Court upheld the judgment, ordering full repayment of the debt.
