Gunmen Kidnap Four Abuja Residents In Fresh Attacks, Kill Vigilante Member

According to residents, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 4, 2036, when the attackers stormed the community around 1am and abducted no fewer than four persons.

At least four people have been kidnapped and one vigilante member killed during an attack by gunmen in the Byazhin area in Kubwa, within the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

According to residents, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 4, 2036, when the attackers stormed the community around 1am and abducted no fewer than four persons.

Residents said that during the operation, which threw the area into panic, a member of the local vigilante group was shot dead while attempting to confront the assailants and prevent the abductions.

However, the identities of the kidnapped victims and the slain vigilante member were not immediately available as of the time of filing this report.

Residents said the incident has heightened fears over the worsening security situation in communities around Bwari and Kubwa, where cases of kidnapping and violent attacks have become increasingly frequent in recent years.

Attempts to confirm the incident from the FCT Police Command failed as the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Josephine Adeh, did not answer calls made to her mobile phone number.

The latest attack added to growing incidents of attacks and abduction of residents in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory, particularly in satellite communities bordering Abuja, where residents have repeatedly called for increased security presence and patrols to curb the activities of armed criminal groups.

On Monday, June 1, SaharaReporters reported how heavily armed gunmen, suspected to be bandit members, plunged the Paze community in the Kubwa axis of the same Bwari Area Council, into severe panic after invading a residential home to kidnap an Abuja resident for the second time in less than a month.

The victim, identified as Emmanuel Oluwale, was violently abducted during a midnight raid on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

The latest incident has triggered massive outrage and fear among residents of the border community, coming barely three weeks after Oluwale was first captured by terrorists and only released after his traumatised family coughed up a staggering N7million ransom payment.

Local community sources said that the well-armed gang sneaked into the Kungabokun neighbourhood at about 11 pm under the cover of darkness.

The bandits bypassed local vigilante checkpoints and surrounded Oluwale’s residence. In a frantic bid to gain access into the building, the attackers used heavy objects to violently break down his window before crawling inside.

They subsequently dragged the victim out of his room amidst gunshots that echoed through the night, disappearing with him into the vast forest reserves connecting the FCT to neighbouring states.

Earlier in March, no fewer than 16 residents, including the wife of a local vigilante commander, her younger sister, and four children belonging to a pastor, were abducted by gunmen during an attack on Peze community in the Byazhi area of the same Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the FCT.

Residents said that the heavily armed gunmen invaded the community in the night, operating between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., moving from house to house while attempting to force their way into homes.

One resident said the attackers had earlier assembled in an uncompleted building opposite his house before launching the operation.

According to the resident, the gunmen threatened to kill occupants who refused to open their doors.

The source explained that when the kidnappers could not gain entry into his house, they moved to other homes where they eventually abducted several residents.

The Bwari Area Council, particularly the Kubwa, Ushafa, and Mpape axis, has degenerated into a high-risk zone where sophisticated kidnapping rings operate with near impunity.

Security analysts have repeatedly warned that these syndicates have established permanent operational camps in the hilly terrains bordering Kaduna and Niger states.
