Nigerian Senate Rejects Oshiomhole’s Call to Probe Military Spending on Insecurity 

The Senate has rejected a proposal by Senator Adams Oshiomhole to investigate how funds allocated to the military for the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges were spent.

Oshiomhole raised concerns over the management of security funds in previous years, questioning whether resources meant for military operations were diverted to projects unrelated to the fight against insecurity. He specifically cited the establishment of military universities and the reported acquisition of a naval yacht, arguing that greater priority should have been given to weapons procurement, intelligence gathering, and modern security technology.

However, the proposal was rejected by the majority of senators during a voice vote presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Responding to the concerns, Senator Ali Ndume stated that the military institutions mentioned by Oshiomhole were funded through separate appropriations approved by the National Assembly and not from funds earmarked for military operations. He added that any investigation into military spending should be presented through a separate motion.
