Gunmen Kidnap Abuja Resident Weeks After N7million Ransom Payment, One Suspect Arrested

Heavily armed gunmen, suspected to be bandit cartel members, have plunged the Paze community in the Kubwa axis of the Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, into severe panic after invading a residential home to kidnap an Abuja resident for the second time in less than a month.

The victim, identified as Emmanuel Oluwale, was violently abducted during a midnight raid on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

The latest incident has triggered massive outrage and fear among residents of the border community, coming barely three weeks after Oluwale was first captured by terrorists and only released after his traumatised family coughed up a staggering N7million ransom payment.

The bandits bypassed local local vigilante checkpoints and surrounded Oluwale’s residence. In a frantic bid to gain access into the building, the attackers used heavy objects to violently break down his window before crawling inside.

They subsequently dragged the victim out of his room amidst gunshots that echoed through the night, disappearing with him into the vast forest reserves connecting the FCT to neighbouring states.

“The gunmen accessed his home after breaking down his window,” a terrified community source said.

“This is coming three weeks after the victim was kidnapped and released after paying a N7million ransom. The community is completely unsafe right now; nobody knows who is next.”

Following the chaotic abduction, angry youths and local vigilantes mobilised and combed the immediate escape routes used by the criminal network.

SaharaReporters gathered that their emergency response yielded a breakthrough as one suspect, believed to be an informant or an accomplice linked to the bandit cell, was successfully tracked and apprehended on the outskirts of the community.

The suspect was immediately transported under heavy security and handed over to the operatives at the Byazhin Police Station for interrogation.

As of the time of filing this report, the FCT Police Command has maintained a complete wall of silence regarding the security breach.

Efforts by SaharaReporters to get an official statement from the FCT Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, proved completely abortive. Multiple telephone calls placed to her official line went unanswered, and a text message seeking clarification on the ongoing rescue operations received no response.

The fact that the same victim was targeted and abducted twice within three weeks highlights a disturbing pattern where criminal networks use previously extracted ransom data to re-victimise helpless citizens, exploiting the reactive and under-resourced security architecture of the nation’s capital.
