I Never Met Bandits Alone” — Sheikh Ahmad Gumi Speaks on Allegations

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has clarified that he has never met armed bandits alone or in secret.

He said his interactions with bandits have always been part of peace and dialogue efforts, usually in the company of security operatives or intermediaries.

Gumi made the statement while responding to public criticism and allegations that he privately negotiates with criminals.

He insisted that his role is to encourage peace talks and advocate for non-violent solutions to Nigeria’s security crisis, especially in the North-West where banditry is widespread.

He also maintained that engaging in dialogue does not mean supporting criminal activities, but rather trying to reduce violence and encourage surrender or amnesty discussions where possible.
