Bwala Defends Tinubu, Attacks Sowore, Obi, Atiku Over Opposition Politics

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has defended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while launching a scathing attack on prominent opposition figures, including Omoyele Sowore, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, accusing them of lacking democratic credentials and failing to offer viable alternatives to Nigerians.

In a statement posted on his X account on Thursday, Bwala argued that opposition politicians have devoted more energy to criticising the President and his policies than presenting practical solutions to the country’s challenges.

According to him, persistent attacks on the Tinubu administration have become a defining feature of opposition politics, despite what he described as a lack of clear policy alternatives.

“When you see these people wanting to take power from officialABAT and constantly attacking his life, politics and policies, you would be forced to shake your head in disbelief,” Bwala wrote.

The presidential aide said a closer examination of the political conduct and philosophies of opposition leaders raises questions about their commitment to democratic principles.

Taking aim at Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Bwala alleged that the activist-politician has maintained control of his political party in a manner designed to secure repeated presidential nominations.

He claimed that Sowore temporarily relinquishes the party’s chairmanship during election periods only to reclaim the position after contests, questioning whether such a practice reflects democratic values.

Bwala also criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of moving from one political platform to another in search of guaranteed presidential tickets rather than participating in competitive primaries.

According to him, while Obi allegedly secures party nominations through adoption, many of his supporters are subjected to internal party contests and have struggled to achieve political success through the same process.

The presidential spokesman further turned his attention to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart of applying double standards to political defections.

Bwala argued that Atiku considers it acceptable to switch political parties in pursuit of his presidential ambition but condemns former allies who leave his camp to pursue their own aspirations, describing such individuals as disloyal or lacking character.

Defending President Tinubu’s democratic credentials, Bwala cited the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary that produced the President as the party’s candidate ahead of the 2023 election.

He noted that despite being a sitting president with the influence to push for a consensus arrangement, Tinubu allowed a competitive primary process when another party member expressed interest in contesting.

“Now who is a democrat? You tell me,” Bwala stated.

The presidential aide concluded by accusing opposition leaders of exploiting national difficulties for political gain while failing to provide a coherent roadmap for governance.

According to him, criticism alone is insufficient, insisting that Nigerians deserve concrete policy proposals and practical alternatives from those seeking political office.

His remarks come amid growing political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties intensifying efforts to challenge the ruling APC and President Tinubu’s administration.
