Tinubu Omits Oyo, Borno School Abductions In Third Anniversary Speech, Claims Communities Are Safer
The students and school officials in Oyo State were abducted by suspected terrorists whose affiliation remains unclear, while the pupils in Borno State were kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram fighters believed to belong to the Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) faction.
President Bola Tinubu has failed to mention the recent abduction of students and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, as well as the kidnapping of pupils of Mussa Askira Primary School in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State during his nationwide broadcast marking the third anniversary of his administration.
The students and school officials in Oyo State were abducted by suspected terrorists whose affiliation remains unclear, while the pupils in Borno State were kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram fighters believed to belong to the Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) faction.
Despite mounting concerns over insecurity, recent school attacks, and the fact that pupils and teachers remain in captivity two weeks later, Tinubu, in his Friday speech, maintained that many Nigerian communities and highways are becoming safer and more economically vibrant.
Speaking on security during the anniversary address, the president said his administration had intensified operations against terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, oil thieves, and other criminal elements threatening the peace of the country.
“Security remains central to our national mission and to the creation of a virile and prosperous society. Our Armed Forces and security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, oil thieves, and criminal networks,” he said.
“While challenges remain, many communities and highways are becoming safer and more economically active. We continue investing in intelligence, surveillance, logistics, technology, and inter-agency coordination.
“We are improving the capabilities of our armed forces and security agencies, and reclaiming the authority of the Nigerian state wherever criminality threatens peace and order.
“While we continue to confront the challenges head-on, progress is being made. I want to assure you that this government will not relent until every Nigerian can live, work, travel, and dream in safety.”
SaharaReporters had reported that students, along with staff members including the principal of Community High School in the Ahoro-Esinle community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, were abducted by gunmen, throwing residents into panic and prompting parents to call for urgent intervention from security agencies and the government.
Similarly, suspected Boko Haram terrorists from the JAS faction reportedly abducted pupils of Mussa Askira Primary School in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on the same day, reviving memories of previous mass abductions of schoolchildren in the North-East.
