Governor Fubara’s Brother Joins 2027 Rivers Governorship Race, Pledges One-Term Tenure
In a declaration marked by strong political undertones, Fubara Senior called for what he described as a “total uprising” to reclaim governance in Rivers State, insisting that the state had suffered economic and political decline.
Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, brother of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 Rivers State governorship election under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, pledging to serve only one term if elected.
In a declaration marked by strong political undertones, Fubara Senior called for what he described as a “total uprising” to reclaim governance in Rivers State, insisting that the state had suffered economic and political decline.
“My dear Rivers people, my name is Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior. I stand before you today with profound gratitude to God Almighty and utmost humility to you, offering myself, ready, competent, and energetic to serve,” he said.
He said the state stands on a ground that is competent, reliable and reputable to restore the soul of Nigeria and Rivers State, alleging that the state had lost opportunities, investments and dignity over time.
According to him, Rivers State has become “distressed” and “shortchanged,” adding that the political situation has reduced it to almost a conquered state.
He said, “We have lost opportunities. We have lost investments. We have lost our dignity as a people. We have lost our pride as Rivers people. Therefore, it is time for a total uprising, for us to make a statement across party lines, across our ethnic and political sentiments, to take over our state and return our dear Rivers State to the zenith of what it was known for as the treasure base of the nation, characterized by steady and booming economic prosperity and community investment advantages.
“Today, we see a Rivers State that is distressed. Today, we see a Rivers State that is shortchanged. Today, we see a Rivers State that is almost seeming like a conquered state. No, we are not a conquered people.
“We have decided to offer ourselves to you as a state. We might not challenge the financial capacity that they have, but we know that we have the people, so we are richer in capacity.”
The governorship aspirant called on his supporters across the 23 local government areas of the state to mobilise ahead of the party primaries, insisting that grassroots participation would determine the outcome.
“I am calling on my 2 million supporters across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State, who are card-carrying members of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, to come out en masse, stand at your polling units, stand at your wards, and make a statement for us to reclaim the soul of our dear Rivers State,” he said.
He also reaffirmed support for zoning and political rotation in the state, arguing that the Rivers South-East senatorial district should be allowed to complete its supposed eight-year cycle.
On that basis, he pledged to serve only a single four-year term if elected.
“We have vowed to you to maintain the peaceful existence of the political rotation of Rivers State according to our founding fathers and districts. The Rivers South-East Senatorial District must complete its eight-year tenure. Therefore, I have vowed to do just a four-year single term to bring the expected prosperity and development to Rivers State,” he said, adding that he would support the next governorship candidate from another senatorial district afterward.
Fubara Senior further warned against altering what he described as the state’s political rotation arrangement, arguing that it could destabilise governance.
He also appealed to other aspirants, including his “elder brother” in the race, to step down in support of what he called “the uprising of the people” aimed at reclaiming the state.
“Therefore, I call on my elder brother, also in the contest, to see reason that this is the right time for us to take over our state, to step down, and support the call of the people, the uprising of the people, for us to take back our dear state and restore a prosperous and progressive state for all,” he added.
