From Graduation Dreams to Funeral Plans –  Nigerian Athlete Killed in US Robbery Incident

“She survived Nigeria, chased her dreams abroad, earned MBA, planned her wedding, only to be shot dead days before graduation.

This story is breaking hearts across Nigeria and beyond.

30-year-old Nigerian athlete and graduate student, Oluwabukola Pereira, was tragically shot dead in Ohio, USA, just DAYS before she was supposed to walk across the stage for her MBA graduation at Xavier University.

According to reports, Bukola was working at an auto shop when a robbery happened. Instead of hiding, she reportedly tried to stop the suspect from escaping with stolen money. That brave decision sadly cost her life.

What makes this even more painful?

She had already secured admission for another postgraduate programme in Business Analytics.
She was engaged and preparing for her wedding this year.
She was described as prayerful, hardworking, humble, and full of life.
She was also a respected athlete in Cincinnati’s running community and participated in major races like the Flying Pig Marathon.

From the streets of Lagos where she trained as an athlete, to pursuing multiple degrees in America, Bukola represented the dreams of so many young Nigerians fighting for a better future.

Now her family is preparing for a funeral instead of a graduation celebration.

Her coach in Lagos said she was disciplined, focused, and destined for greatness. Friends say she was kind, intelligent, and always willing to help others.

Honestly, this world can be painfully unfair sometimes.

One minute you’re preparing for graduation photos…
Next minute your name becomes “late.”

May her soul rest in perfect peace.

But this tragedy is also raising serious conversations online:
Would YOU risk your life to stop a thief or protect business money that isn’t yours?

Drop your honest opinion below.
