Political stakeholders, youths and concerned members across Ekiti South Federal Constituency II have begun consultations aimed at forming a broad coalition against the emergence of Femi Bamisile following what many described as a deeply flawed and controversial APC House of Representatives primary election conducted yesterday.
In a statement jointly issued by concerned political actors and community stakeholders, the group described the exercise as a charade that failed to reflect the true will of party members and delegates within the constituency.
According to the statement, many eligible participants were allegedly denied the opportunity to freely and willingly support the candidate of their choice, while reports of pressure, intimidation and coercion reportedly characterized parts of the process.
“What took place cannot genuinely be described as a democratic exercise. Members and supporters were not given a fair atmosphere to openly express their preference,” the statement read.
The coalition further questioned the credibility of the declared figures, noting that despite claims that Femi Bamisile secured over 4,000 votes, the process lacked visible transparency and verifiable public participation.
“If truly such overwhelming support existed, then there should be clear and undeniable video evidence of the voting process across the constituency. The public deserves transparency, not mere figures announced without convincing proof.”
The group also demanded that a detailed breakdown of the results across all local governments and wards under Ekiti South Federal Constituency II be immediately presented to the public in the interest of accountability and transparency.
“The figures announced must be accompanied by a verifiable breakdown from each local government and ward within Ekiti South Federal Constituency II. The people deserve to know where these votes came from and how the numbers were arrived at.”
The coalition pointed out that the declared result reportedly represents one of the lowest performances recorded among the House of Representatives primaries announced across Ekiti State, insisting that the outcome reflects growing dissatisfaction among grassroots members.
According to them, the growing frustration within the constituency has now triggered serious conversations around political alternatives ahead of the general election.
“The reality on ground is clear: many people no longer see Bamisile as a viable option for the future of Ekiti South Federal Constituency II.”
The coalition warned that unless the outcome of the primary election is reviewed, cancelled, or revisited in the interest of fairness and credibility, a new political movement may emerge from the constituency.
“If the party leadership refuses to address the concerns surrounding this exercise, then the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will rise from Ekiti South Federal Constituency II and provide a genuine alternative that reflects the true will of the people.”
The stakeholders further issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the APC leadership to address the grievances surrounding the primary election, warning that failure to act within the stipulated timeframe would trigger serious political consequences, including the formation and consolidation of a broad-based coalition against the party ahead of the general election.
The stakeholders maintained that the constituency deserves representation built on legitimacy, transparency and popular acceptance, not controversy and dissatisfaction.
“This is beyond politics; it is about protecting democracy, credibility and the right of the people to choose freely.”
The statement concluded with a call on party leaders and democratic institutions to carefully examine the concerns raised and ensure that the integrity of the electoral process is not compromised.
