Following the disqualification of the Rivers state House of Assembly aspirants loyal to governor Siminalayi Fubara by the screening committee, a confidential source claims that the governor had known that the aspirants would be disqualified from contesting on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
According to the source, their disqualification is part of a win-win approach by president Tinubu to the Rivers state political crisis.
The source said while governor Sim Fubara will be cleared and eventually win the APC governorship ticket for 2027, Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister will remain in control of the Rivers state House of Assembly.
What is happening had already been planned and the governor is aware–the governor knows that these aspirants will be disqualified by the screening committee. It’s part of the president’s win-win solution to the Rivers state crisis. While the governor will return on the platform of the APC, Wike will continue to control the House of Assembly. So it’s a trade by barter–give me this and take this kind of situation”.
The source added that while governor Fubara despite being aware that the aspirants loyal to him would be disqualified, he allowed them to purchase the nomination forms and go for screening for it to be on record.
The governor wants it to be on record that his loyalists where disqualified in line with the president’s win win approach. I believe the president has adopted the best approach to managing Nyesom Wike and governor Fubara”.
He said Wike will be directed by the president to compel his governorship aspirants to step down for governor Sim Fubara having been compensated with all the party’s tickets for the State House of Assembly seats.
