Faction Of Obidient Movement Separates From Peter Obi

A faction of the Obidient Movement has separated from the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the Director general of the Movement, Yunusa Tanko, in the buildup to the 2027 general elections.

The faction also declared the disbandment of the #obidient Movement and unveiled a rebranded structure known as the #OBEDIENT Movement.

The group’s International Coordinator, Barry Avotu Johnson, at a press briefing in Abuja, accused the former leadership of abandoning the movement’s founding ideals for personal and political interests.

Johnson said the group was reclaiming the movement to restore its original vision of responsible leadership, social justice, and national development.

He added that the movement has not endorsed any presidential candidate for 2027 and is no longer affiliated with the Labour Party.

The group said the movement grew out of the civic awakening that followed the EndSARS protests and was founded in 2022 to mobilise Nigerians seeking better governance.
