Trump Declares US Hostilities In Iran Have ‘Terminated’, Hints At Military Action In Cuba

The United States President, Donald Trump, has officially informed Congress that the military campaign against Iran, which began on February 28, has reached a termination point, even as he hinted about launching a military takeover of Cuba on the “way back” from the Middle East.
In a letter sent to the US Congress on Friday, Trump stated that the ceasefire initiated on April 7, 2026, has held, effectively ending the active exchange of fire between US forces and Tehran.
The announcement comes just as the conflict hit the 60-day legal limit mandated by the War Powers Act for unauthorised military actions.
“The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated,” Trump wrote, while simultaneously warning that the Pentagon would maintain a heavy “force posture” in the region to address what he described as a lingering Iranian threat.
While the official correspondence focused on the cessation of hostilities, Trump’s rhetoric at an event in West Palm Beach was far more combative.
Addressing a cheering crowd, the President quipped about using the massive US naval fleet currently in the Persian Gulf to settle old scores with the Cuban government.
“We’ll do it on the way back from Iran,” Trump told the audience, specifically mentioning the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier as monitored in CNN. “We’ll have that come in, stop about 100 yards offshore, and they’ll say, ‘thank you very much, we give up.'”
The comments have sparked fresh concerns among international observers about the Trump administration’s appetite for regime change, following the February 28 strikes that targeted and reportedly killed high-ranking Iranian officials, including the Supreme Leader.
Trump also used the Florida platform to boast about the US Navy’s aggressive tactics in the Strait of Hormuz. Describing the seizure of an Iranian cargo ship, the President compared US operations to high-seas robbery.
Trump described how US forces used tugboats and landed “on top” of a seized Iranian vessel. “We took over the cargo, took over the oil. It’s a very profitable business,” he said.
Since April 13, the US has enforced a maritime blockade, stopping traffic entering or exiting Iranian ports. Washington insists non-Iranian vessels can pass, provided they do not pay “tolls” to Tehran—a move that has effectively strangled Iran’s maritime economy.
Despite the ceasefire, a permanent peace deal remains elusive. Negotiations held in Islamabad, Pakistan, ended without a breakthrough, and Trump told reporters he was “not satisfied” with the latest proposal from Tehran.
“Frankly, maybe we’re better off not making a deal at all,” Trump remarked, signaling that the US is prepared to continue its policy of maximum pressure and naval blockades indefinitely.
The conflict, dubbed Operation Epic Fury, has already left a trail of destruction across the Middle East, with thousands of casualties reported since the February strikes.
While the “hostilities” may be officially over according to the White House, the regional tension remains at a breaking point as the US Department of War continues to update its posture against Iranian proxy forces.
