Why Obasa May not Return to Lagos State House of Assembly–Insider
The current speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa will unlikely return to the state’s House of Assembly in 2027.
According to a highly confidential source privy to the development, Obasa’s governorship ambition for 2027 has come to an end following president Tinubu and the members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) adoption of Lagos State current deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat as the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the Lagos 2027 governorship election.
Obasa, determined to take a step further in his political career, expressed interest in the APC senatorial ticket for Lagos West Senatorial District, hopeful of beating the incumbent, senator Idiat Adebule, the immediate past Lagos deputy governor, to the ticket.
However, Obasa failed to secure support from the APC national and zonal leadership in his quest to replace senator Idiat Adebule at the Senate in 2027.
Sources within the ruling party revealed that while Obasa’s request was considered, the party’s leadership stressed the importance of senator Idiat Adebule returning to the Senate in view of the fact that she is the only serving female senator from the southwest region.
The APC leadership argued that senator Idiat Adebule returning to the Senate is important to gender representation in the senate.
His senatorial ambition resisted as his governorship ambition, Mudashiru Obasa, according to the source, remained resolute in his venturing into national politics in 2027. As a result, he was reportedly enjoined by president Tinubu to consider the House of Representatives. The Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker will contest for the House of Representatives seat for Agege Federal Constituency–to replace Dr. Wale Ahmed, a first-term lawmaker.
