Don’t blame me for power failure, blame past Goodluck Jonathan who gave us terrible privatization of the sector — Tinubu tells Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has attributed Nigeria’s persistent electricity issues to poor handling of the power sector’s privatization by past leaders, stating that the “terrible” process left the country with structural failures. Tinubu expressed that if the privatization was given to incapable hands, it must be revisited, as it cannot lock down the nation’s future.

Tinubu explicitly directed Nigerians to hold previous administrations accountable for the flawed privatization of generation and distribution companies, which was completed around 2013.

Despite these challenges, the President maintained that his administration is committed to improving power supply to boost economic growth and industrialization, stressing that despite the current dark reality, his government is working on restructuring the sector for long-term stability.
