Wale Edun breaks silence on his controversial sack as minister by Tinubu
Former minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has declared that he is satisfied with his contribution as the nation’s minister of finance and economy.
In a statement the former minister released on April 22nd following his sack on April 21st, Wale Edun noted that he feels proud of the progress the country’s economy made under his stewardship and prayed for the success of Taiwo Oyedele, his successor.
Wale Edun also thanked president Tinubu for his confidence in him which culminated in the president entrusting him with the responsibility of overseing the nation’s ministry of finance and economy. According to him, he is grateful to president Tinubu for granting him the opportunity to serve in multiple capacities since the inception of his administration in May, 2023.
He highlighted how he served as a member of the presidential transition committee, as special adviser to the president on monetary policy, and later as minister of Finance.
It has been an honour to contribute to the implementation of the administration’s economic agenda at a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s journey,” he stated.
Edun also reflected on the economic challenges encountered by the Tinubu’s administration when it came into power, declaring that the reforms by the Tinubu’s administration are yielding positive results.
I am proud of what we achieved alongside colleagues… and the many dedicated professionals whose work continues to support the nation’s economic transformation,” Edun stated.
He also thanked both international and local partners for their support and collaboration during his time.
He explained that economic reforms are continuous process, stating his optimism over the future of the country as well as his commitment to national service.
I wish my successor and the entire government the very best as they continue the work of improving the lives of Nigerians,” he concluded
