Iran Fails To Send Delegation To Pakistan Amid US Peace Talks Move

Fresh uncertainty has clouded proposed diplomatic engagements between Tehran and Washington, as Iranian state media has denied reports of any official presence in Pakistan for anticipated peace talks.

The development comes amid heightened tensions following a renewed push by the United States to pressure Iran into a negotiated settlement.
Earlier, President Donald Trump declared that Washington would maintain its blockade on Iran until an agreement is reached, describing the strategy as already effective.
Posting via his social media platform, Trump wrote: “I’m winning a War, BY A LOT, things are going very well, our Military has been amazing and, if you read the Fake News, like The Failing New York Times, the absolutely horrendous and disgusting Wall Street Journal, or the now almost defunct, fortunately, Washington Post, you would actually think we are losing the War.”
He added that “THE BLOCKADE, which we will not take off until there is a ‘DEAL,’ is absolutely destroying Iran. They are losing $500million a day, an unsustainable number, even in the short run.”

“Honoring commitments is the basis of meaningful dialogue. Deep historical mistrust in Iran toward U.S. gov conduct remains, while unconstructive & contradictory signals from American officials carry a bitter message; they seek Iran’s surrender. Iranians do not submit to force,” Pezeshkian said in a statement on Monday, April 20, 2026.
Compounding tensions, IRIB also reported a maritime development involving an Iranian oil tanker. “Despite multiple threats from the US Navy, the Iranian tanker ‘Sili City,’ escorted by the Iranian Navy, safely crossed the Arabian Sea and entered Iranian territorial waters last night. It is now anchored at a southern port of the Islamic Republic of Iran. #Iran #Navy.”
The absence of any Iranian delegation in Pakistan raises fresh doubts about the viability of the proposed talks, which were reportedly expected to take place in Islamabad. Iranian authorities have hinted at a possible boycott, citing what they described as an “unprovoked maritime escalation” by U.S. forces, including the reported interception of an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson reinforced this stance, stating that the government “currently has no plans to engage in any fresh negotiations,” linking the position to recent developments at sea.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has reportedly heightened security preparations in Islamabad, deploying thousands of personnel in anticipation of possible high-level diplomatic activity that now appears increasingly uncertain.
Iran’s Vice President, Mohammad Reza Aref, maintained that Tehran would continue to defend its economic and strategic interests, stressing that the country should not be restricted from exporting oil while simultaneously being expected to ensure stability in key maritime corridors.
With no delegation on ground in Islamabad and positions hardening on both sides, prospects for immediate dialogue appear dim, deepening concerns over further escalation in an already fragile geopolitical standoff.
