Pandemonium in Ondo as Local Government Chairman Is Assaulted, Stripped Naked

Pandemonium broke out at the Owo Local Government Secretariat on Monday as suspected thugs allegedly descended on the suspended council chairman, assaulting and stripping him naked in a brazen show of force that left workers and residents in shock.

The embattled chairman had reportedly arrived at the secretariat to resume duties after about six months in suspension when the situation spiralled out of control.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and humiliating.

“They beat him mercilessly, tore his clothes and left him almost completely naked,” a staff member said. “It was a disgrace. People were running for safety while the thugs fired shots into the air.”

Sources claimed the attackers stormed the premises shortly after the chairman’s arrival, disrupting activities and sending workers fleeing.

“Gunshots rented the air, and everyone took to their heels. It was like a war zone,” another witness recounted.

Those allegedly involved in the attack were identified by sources as individuals linked to local power blocs

Witnesses further alleged that the attackers invoked the authority of the Olowo of Owo during the assault.

“They kept shouting that the Olowo had ordered him out of Owo,” a source claimed, though no official statement has been issued by the palace to confirm the allegation.

The dramatic incident has intensified controversy surrounding the chairman’s suspension, which sources say has been mired in political and administrative disputes.

Some insiders also questioned the legality of the suspension, claiming there was no formally communicated letter at the time the crisis erupted.

Residents and observers have since condemned the attack, describing it as a dangerous descent into lawlessness.

“Stripping an elected chairman naked is beyond politics; it is pure intimidation and a threat to democracy,” a resident said.

There are also growing concerns over the alleged involvement of non-state actors in what many insist should be strictly governed by constitutional processes.

“Local government officials are elected under the law. No group has the right to subject anyone to such humiliation,” another resident added.

As tension continues to rise in the ancient town, workers and community leaders have called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and security agencies to urgently intervene.

At the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
