“We Need Answers, Not Condolences” – Sheikh Gumi berates NAF Over Deadly Airstrike

Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has called for a full investigation into the Nigerian Air Force airstrike that reportedly killed over 50 civilians at a busy market in Jilli village along the Borno State and Yobe State border.

Reacting via Facebook, Gumi questioned the accountability behind the operation, asking who authorised and carried out the bombing that allegedly hit innocent traders during peak market hours.

He pointed to past incidents, including the Tudun Biri bombing and other reported strikes in Nasarawa State and Sokoto State, saying such events show a disturbing pattern of attacks affecting civilians.

According to him, terrorism cannot be defeated through actions that put innocent lives at risk, warning that such operations could weaken public trust.

Gumi urged the Nigerian Senate to immediately launch hearings into what he described as repeated “mistakes” involving bombings of villages and markets.

His words: “Who are the pilots behind these bomb releases on innocent locals? … Terror cannot be fought with another terror. We need answers, not condolences.”

The airstrike reportedly happened on Saturday evening during peak trading hours, with eyewitnesses claiming multiple fighter jets were involved.

While authorities confirmed the incident, they maintained that the operation was aimed at terrorist targets in the area, even as concerns continue to grow over civilian casualties.
