Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II Earns N442 Million from MTN Group in 2025
Nigerian monarch Lamido Sanusi, the Emir of Kano, received N442 million ($324,000) from MTN Group for the 2025 fiscal year, reflecting Africa’s largest mobile operator’s financial rebound.
The payout, up from N412 million the previous year, highlights the growing influence of non-executive directors in shaping corporate governance.
Sanusi, who has served on MTN’s board since July 2019, earned R1.82 million (N148 million) in retainer fees, R1.37 million (N112 million) for board meetings, and additional payments for strategy sessions and special assignments.
He sits on the risk management, finance, and social ethics committees, contributing to MTN’s oversight across multiple African markets, including Nigeria and Ghana.
Beyond MTN, the Emir chairs Black Rhino Management Services Limited and holds several corporate directorships.
A former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi is known for his banking reforms, outspoken public stance, and role as spiritual head of the Tijaniyya Sufi order.
