A new chapter has officially begun for the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Philippines Zone Incorporated, following a historic leadership transition that marks both continuity and progress.
In a well-attended ceremony held in Las Piñas, Metro Manila, Comrade Nwosu Kingsley Chubuzo (BKC) emerged as the new President, succeeding Rev. Dr. Okoye Chikelue Christian, whose tenure was widely regarded as transformative and impactful.
The event brought together key stakeholders, members of the Nigerian diaspora, and diplomatic representatives, highlighting the growing influence and unity of Nigerian students in the Philippines.

HISTORIC LEADERSHIP TRANSITION IN NANS PHILIPPINES ZONE –
Rev. Comr Okoye Chikelue Christian Hands Over as Comr. Nwosu Kingsley Chubuzo (BKC) Emerges President
Las Piñas, Metro Manila, Philippines — The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Philippines Zone Incorporated, has recently recorded a historic milestone as its 1st substantive and democratically elected President Rev. Dr. Okoye Chikelue Christian, formally handed over leadership following a successful and impactful tenures: viz previously acting President of the association from November 2023 – March 2025 and 1st democratically substantive elected president of the association March 2025 – April 6th 2026).
The transition ceremony, held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the Team Convention Center, Las Piñas, marked the emergence of Comrade Nwosu Kingsley Chubuzo (popularly known as BKC) as the new President of the association.
The event was attended by dignitaries, members of the Nigerian community, and leaders of various ethnic and religious organizations.
The Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Nigeria in Manila, Hon. Adesina Edward Oloje, was represented by
– Hon. Abdullahi Saudi Daya (Consular and Education Desk Officer) and
– Hon. Zaradeen Abdulkadir (Head of Chancery).
In a goodwill message delivered on behalf of the Embassy, Nigerian students in the Philippines were encouraged to remain law-abiding, focused on academic excellence, and committed to representing Nigeria with integrity and honor.
The Chairman of the occasion, Bishop Tony Marioghae, President of the Nigerian in Diaspora Organization Philippines (NiDOPhil), charged the newly inaugurated executives to uphold discipline, unity, and visionary leadership in advancing the association’s objectives.
The President of NANS Diaspora – Comr Juwon Chris Fayomi, PhD, who attended virtually earlier sent his goodwill message from the NANS Diaspora global headquarters in RMIT University, Melbourne Australia and admonished the new President and executives to continue from where Rev Okoye stopped in uplifting the welfare and good image and structure of Nigerian Students in the Diaspora.
Key highlights of the ceremony included the valedictory address and handover report by the outgoing President: Rev Comr Okoye Chikelue Christian – detailing a summary of his adminidrstions milestone viz: Membership expansion and inclusion, welfare advocacy and institutional intervention, diplomatic engagement and strategic partnerships, structural reforms and Legal institutionalization/registration of the association with securities and exchange commission Philippines govt, reliable data systems and monitoring framework, conferences, conventions and national gatherings, a academic and institutional collaborations, such as mou ratification with ECTOR, capacity building and knowledge development, host community development and humanitarian outreache, diverse cultural orientations for new students, sports, recreation and social development, students support systems, repatriation of stranded Nigerian Students and emergency assistance, students friendly financial policies, global representation and global influence, financial growth and accountability, assets acquisition and institutional development, restoration and stabilization of the association from misconceptions of leadership structures, digital transformation and media visibility, grassroots expansion and structural strengthening, among others.
The acceptance speech of the newly elected President – Comr Nwosu Kingsley Chubuzo; formal inauguration and oath-taking of the new executives, goodwill messages from distinguished stakeholders, and presentation of awards to deserving individuals.
In his acceptance speech, Comr. Nwosu Kingsley Chubuzo expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to build on the achievements of the previous administration while promoting unity and progress within the association.
The event concluded with an inauguration dinner and networking session, celebrating both the achievements of the outgoing leadership and the beginning of a new administration.
