“Ganduje cannot instruct me”, Governor Abba Kabir says, opens up about their relationship

The governor of Kano state, Abba Kabir Yusuf has seemingly declared that his predecessor and former national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje can not instruct him on how to run the state.

Governor Yusuf declared himself the leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano state as well as the political leader of Ganduje, his party-man. He made the remark while addressing his supporters today in the Kano state capital in response to those who accuse him of betraying the Kwankwasiyya movement by defecting from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the APC.

The governor described his leaving as the right thing to do citing his new status as the leader of the APC in Kano state as well as the opportunity to relate with 31 other governors in APC.

I want to reaffirm that in breaking away from our former movement, we did not commit any wrongdoing. We raised concerns about the state of affairs in the party because we foresaw the crisis. We offered advice, but it was dismissed”.

They say Abba has followed Ganduje to hand over what was entrusted to him. The question is: who is the leader of APC in Kano Today?” he asked, to which supporters responded, “Abba is the leader!”

Is that betrayal or progress? Abba, who was alone in NNPP, is now among over 31 governors. Is that backwardness or progress?” he further asked.

The governor reiterated that he will not be instructed on what to do by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, emphasizing that the former governor is under his political leadership and that both maintain mutual respect for each other.

What exists between me and Ganduje is mutual respect. But he cannot give me instructions because I am the leader,” Yusuf said.
