While governor Fubara’s allies and supporters are eagerly waiting for him to unambiguously declare his next political move, Reliant.ng has been told that the governor has received a new proposal from president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A top source within the Rivers state government has confidentially told us that governor Sim Fubara is considering a proposal from president Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding his political future. The governor is said to be skeptical about his reelection bid following the political move being made by his benefactor turned foe, Nyesom Wike.
The governor did not anticipate that the president Tinubu would allow Nyesom Wike take control of the PDP national structure as soon as he did.
Also, the governor fears that Nyesom Wike change of plan by deciding to field an Ikwerre man instead of his fellow Ijaw man has strategically placed him in a disadvantaged position due to the population strength of the Upland over the Riverine where he hails from.
The source claims that Nyesom who was considering Alabo Boma Iyaye, an Ijaw man and current director of finance at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), for the 2027 Rivers state governorship contest but decided to play ethnic card by settling for Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, the current minority leader of the House of Representatives, who hails from same LGA: Obio/Akpor as Nyesom Wike.
Hence, the source claims that governor Sim Fubara is considering forgoing his reelection ambition and concentrating on president Tinubu’s reelection who recently proposed the post of the FCT minister to the Rivers state governor.
The governor’s supporters are in the dark. The governor himself is not acting like someone who wants to contest in 2027. He is just there. The patience of his supporters is going down. Many of them feel disappointed. If you ask me, I will say he is afraid– he has accepted defeat. He did so when he heard that Wike will sponsor an Ikwerre man against him. He thought Wike will sponsor his fellow Ijaw man against him but Wike wants to play the ethnic card by fielding an Ikwerre man– Ikwerre has the population, you know”.
President Tinubu recently offered him the position of the FCT minister, advising him to allow Wike have his way in Rivers state. As it’s now, the governor is confused, his supporters in dark”, the source stated.
He added that governor Sim Fubara will make a statewide announcement over his political career in coming days, stating that the governor will likely disappoint a lot of his supporters.
