Osun State confirm Super Eagles could host matches at renovated Osogbo Stadium
The Osun State government has expressed strong satisfaction with the ongoing transformation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, confirming that the ambitious upgrade from 6,000 to 15,000 seats remains on track for completion by mid-2026.
According to reports from The Nation Newspaper, Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi, recently conducted an on-site inspection where he underscored the project’s importance for youth development and regional sports.
The reconstruction, handled by Maxwell International Venture, is designed to meet world-class Olympic standards.
Project Manager Architect John Ewule has assured the public that key elements are taking shape, with work on the football pitch nearing completion.
Beyond the increased seating capacity, the facility will feature two international-standard football pitches, a state-of-the-art scoreboard, and upgraded lighting.
Additional details provided by the Guardian Nigeria indicate the stadium will also include specialized facilities such as a multipurpose indoor sports hall, an artificial hockey pitch, a squash court, and an Olympic-size swimming pool.
To ensure economic sustainability, the site will house athlete hostels, a hotel, and a shopping complex.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who flagged off the project in early 2025, intends for the venue to host major events like the National Sports Festival and international matches for the Super Eagles.
