US Policy Firm Declares Interest in ADC de-recognition, reveals plan of action against Nigeria’s authority
Von Batten-Montague York L.C, a US policy firm has declared interest in the de-recognition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the firm, it will formally engage the US Congress on the de-recognition of the ADC by INEC in view of the potential implication of such an action on the Nigeria’s democracy. The firm believes that INEC decision to de-recognize ADC and suspend all official engagement with the party pending the conclusion of the ongoing litigation over the party’s leadership, amounts to threat to Nigeria’s democracy and electoral credibility.

The policy firm added that the action undertaken by the INEC is capable of disorganizing the main opposition party in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 presidential election, warning that the implication must be thoroughly considered in view of Nigeria’s democracy and long-standing relationship with the United States of America.
This action has effectively frozen Nigeria’s main opposition political party at a critical moment as it prepares to compete in the upcoming Nigerian presidential election.
At a time when Nigerians expect free, fair, and credible elections, any development that disrupts political participation, creates institutional uncertainty, or undermines the perceived independence of electoral bodies must be addressed with urgency and transparency”.
The firm emphasized that Nigeria’s political stability is important to the US and sustainance of political stability in Africa.
Nigeria is not only Africa’s largest democracy, but also a critical strategic partner of the United States in regional security, economic stability, and counterterrorism. The integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process is therefore of direct importance to U.S. interests and global stability,” it said.
The firm stated that it is important to draw the attention of the US Congress and the Trump’s administration to the development in Nigeria necessary to ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2027.
It also urged president Tinubu to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system by ensuring that it is free of “reproach, free from doubt, and fully reflective of the will of the Nigerian people,” the statement added.
