Former Senator Dumps Ruling APC For ADC Ahead Of 2027 Elections
Confirming his resignation from the APC in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, Kwari wrote, “I have formally resigned my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Aformer Kaduna State senator, Suleiman Abdu Kwari, has resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in what appears to be part of a growing wave of political realignments across Nigeria.
Confirming his resignation from the APC in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, Kwari wrote, “I have formally resigned my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“This decision reflects my continued commitment to public service, democratic participation, and national development.
“I look forward to contributing, together with others, to the advancement of a people-centered agenda anchored on inclusion, accountability, and sustainable progress in the collective interest of our nation.”
Kwari, who represented Kaduna North Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly, announced his resignation amid a noticeable wave of political shifts and defections across Nigeria’s political landscape, as politicians reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In recent months, several high-profile politicians have either left the APC or distanced themselves from its leadership, citing internal crises, lack of internal democracy, and disagreements over policy direction.
The APC, which has been Nigeria’s ruling party since 2015, has faced mounting criticism over bad governance, while opposition parties like the ADC are increasingly being seen as alternative platforms by politicians seeking broader coalitions to also get to power.
Kwari’s dumping of the APC for ADC could signal further cracks within the APC in Kaduna State, coming amid claims by former governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, that his ongoing prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is a witch-hunt by the Nigerian government for his defection from the APC to ADC.
