Sheikh Gumi Says Foreign Intelligence Behind Nigeria’s Insecurity

Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has claimed that recent violent attacks in Nigeria indicate the involvement of foreign intelligence operations. His remarks came two days after a Palm Sunday attack on Gari Ya Waye community in Jos North, Plateau State, which left over 20 residents dead and several injured.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Gumi said the killings, including coordinated bombings in Maiduguri on March 16 that killed at least 23 people, were not motivated by religion. He added that some Nigerians are serving as “foot soldiers” for foreign mercenaries.

Gumi called for Nigeria to avoid foreign interference in its security systems, particularly from powers he says disregard the sanctity of human life. He urged the government to seek assistance only from “benign superpowers” for satellite intelligence and modern military equipment while building domestic capabilities.

The cleric concluded with prayers for the healing of the injured and comfort for the families of victims.
