Akpoti-Uduaghan blasts defence minister over Jos killings, demands action

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has blasted the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, demanding immediate and decisive action following the killing of Christian worshippers in Angwan Rukuba, Jos.

The March 27 attack, which reportedly claimed over 30 lives, has sparked widespread outrage, particularly as it occurred during a holy period, further heightening concerns over insecurity in the country.

In a message shared via her official social media handles, the lawmaker expressed disappointment over what she described as a widening gap between assurances given by the Defence Minister during his Senate screening and the current security realities.

Akpoti-Uduaghan condemned the killings, describing the incident as “another brutal reminder that Nigerians remain unprotected.”

“Dear General Christopher Musa, Angwan Rukuba is another brutal reminder that Nigerians remain unprotected. During your screening at the Senate chambers, your words were filled with promises, and I allowed myself a sigh of relief — at last, I thought,” she said.

She further issued a stern ultimatum, urging the minister to either deliver results or step aside.

“Prove now you are different and secure lives, or step aside. Enough of condolences. Enough of excuses. Nigerians want action, protection, and results!” she added.

Her remarks add to growing calls for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture as recurring attacks continue to erode public confidence in the government’s ability to protect lives and property.

Meanwhile, residents of Angwan Rukuba and surrounding communities remain in mourning, urging authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent further attacks.
