Moroccan club terminates Senegal star’s contract over AFCON final remarks

Moroccan second-division side USM Oujda have terminated the contract of Senegalese midfielder Issa Ndiaye following controversial remarks linked to the outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The development comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board last Tuesday annulled Senegal’s AFCON 2025 triumph and awarded a 3–0 victory to Morocco, a decision that sparked widespread reactions across the continent.

Following the ruling, USM Oujda confirmed that they had parted ways with Ndiaye, although the club did not officially disclose the exact reason behind the termination of his contract.

However, reports suggested the decision was connected to the midfielder’s reaction to CAF’s verdict, with Ndiaye allegedly mocking the outcome, a move said to have angered club officials.

His remarks were reportedly viewed as disrespectful, particularly given the national significance of the ruling for Moroccan football, prompting swift disciplinary action from the club’s management.
