Governor Seyi Makinde Strips Nyesom Wike of the “Commemorative Honour” conferred on him by Oyo State
The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has stripped FCT minister, Nyesom Wike of the commemorative honour conferred on by his administration in June, 2023 before their friendship went sour.
Governor Seyi Makinde and Nyesom Wike were the ring leaders of the G5 who rebelled against their political party in 2023 by supporting the candidate of the ruling party –All Progressive Congress (APC) and eventual winner of the presidential election, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In the spirit of their comradeship and to solidify their friendship following Tinubu’s electoral victory, governor Seyi Makinde in June, 2023 named 8.3 kilometres Phase II Idi-Ape/Akobo-Olorunda Abaa road after Nyesom Wike to symbolize their friendship.
Following their fallout due to Nyesom Wike’s strong grip on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) amid Seyi Makinde’s resistance, the Oyo State governor whose faction of the PDP recently lost its appeal over PDP leadership at the Appellate court to the Wike’s faction, decided to strip Wike of the commemorative honour he bestowed on his estranged friend barely three years ago.
The the 8.3 kilometres Phase II Idi-Ape/Akobo-Olorunda Abaa formally known as Nyesom Wike road in the past three years, has been renamed Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu Road.
This is amidst the reported move by the party hierarchy to unify the party’s factions by reconciling the Seyi Makinde’s faction and the Wike’s faction of the PDP.
Commentators have suggested that the Oyo State governor might be disinterested in reconciling with Nyesom Wike.
