APC Chairman Gives Update on governor Bala Mohammed Defection to the ruling party
The Bauchi state leadership of the ruling party–All Progressive Congress (APC) has stated that the state governor, Bala Mohammed has not made any contact with the party in the state regarding his reported defection to the party.
The state chairman of APC in Bauchi, Muhammad Hassan Tilde has revealed that governor Bala Mohammed has not contacted the party leadership in the state, citing that he is unaware of whether governor Bala Mohammed is in talk with the national leadership of the party.
At the state level, we have not received any information to that effect. We are still waiting to hear from either our national headquarters or the governor himself”, he stated.
He added that such defections usually start at the national level of the party: “you know such a defection always starts from the national level. You better contact our stakeholders at the national level to get the information”.
An unnamed source quoted by Daily Post, said to be a top national official of the APC, claimed that the APC national leadership has not entered into any agreement with governor Bala Mohammed and that no consultation has been made by the governor or his political associates.
He stated that governor Bala Mohammed reported defection to APC is largely speculative as no concrete move has been made by the governor to join the ruling party.
Also, Reliant.ng reported yesterday that governor Bala Mohammed after swearing in 17 permanent secretaries yesterday, briefly spoke to the press, vaguely discrediting speculation linking him to a move to the APC.
He described the speculations as “amusing”, noting that he will speak about the defection rumour at the appropriate time, and that he has become an international personality.
I find it amusing that even when I have not said anything officially, people are already discussing me as if I have moved. It shows the level of attention and relevance we carry. I am now a global personality all of a sudden.”
