APC women leaders pass vote of no confidence in popular Senator
The Forum of Women Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State has announced a vote of no confidence in the senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Senator Sunday Karimi.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on March 14 during a press conference held in Kabba, the headquarters of the senatorial district.
According to the forum, the resolution followed consultations with women stakeholders across the wards in the local government area.
The group said the step was taken to promote accountability, unity and responsible leadership within the party.
The forum also expressed concern over what it described as limited engagement between the senator and grassroots party members since his election to the National Assembly.
It noted that women leaders in the area considered closer interaction between elected representatives and constituents essential for effective representation.
The group further stated that some constituents had raised issues regarding access to representation, particularly the need for structures that would strengthen communication between the lawmaker and residents of the district.
Announcing its position, the forum said it had withdrawn support for the senator’s potential candidacy in the 2027 elections.
The group also urged the national leadership of the APC to review the concerns raised and take appropriate steps in line with the party’s internal processes.
It reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening party unity, encouraging greater participation of women in politics and promoting grassroots engagement within the APC.
