I Am Afraid – Charly Boy Warns That Nigeria Is Repeating 1967 Mistakes
Veteran musician and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has raised an alarm over the current state of Nigeria. The “Area Fada” expressed deep fears that the tension, hardship, and tribal divisions seen across the country today are exactly what led to the bloody Biafran Civil War.
Speaking during a recent session with The Podcast Network in Lagos, the 75-year-old entertainer opened up about his personal trauma. He reminded Nigerians that he was just a teenager when the war broke out, and the “bad vibes” he is feeling now are far too familiar.
“It is like a déjà vu. I know what led to the Biafra War, I think I was 16 or 17 during the war and it is like the same thing is playing back again,” Charly Boy said. He admitted that he is genuinely scared for the future of the youth if things don’t change.
Many Nigerians online have reacted with mixed feelings of sadness and concern. While some hope his warnings are heard by those in power, others feel the weight of his words, praying that the country finds a way to heal before history repeats itself.
