Olayinka Reacts As Footages Of Judges Quarters Built By FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Surfaced Online

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has responded to reactions trailing a viral video showing newly constructed housing units for judges in Abuja.

The footage, which surfaced online on Saturday, March 14, 2026, attracted widespread attention on social media as many Nigerians shared differing opinions about the project.

The housing units were reportedly built for members of the judiciary in the Federal Capital Territory under the administration of the FCT minister.

Prior to the commencement of the project, the development had already generated mixed reactions from the public.

Some critics had argued that the initiative could raise concerns about the independence of the judiciary, suggesting that providing residential quarters for judges might create the perception of undue influence by the executive arm of government.

Reacting to the debate, Olayinka took to his official X account to defend the project and clarify the role of the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority (FCDA).

According to him, the agency is responsible for constructing infrastructure for the three arms of government within the nation’s capital.

He stated that the construction of institutional facilities and official residences forms part of the FCDA’s mandate in the development of Abuja.

Olayinka maintained that Wike was simply carrying out his duties by ensuring that necessary infrastructure is provided for government institutions operating in the capital city.

While addressing the criticism surrounding the project, Olayinka also mentioned activist and former presidential aspirant Omoyele Sowore.

He alleged that Sowore had taken issue with the construction despite previously benefiting from the same judicial system.

Olayinka referenced a court ruling in which Sowore was awarded damages after he was declared wanted by the police, noting that the judiciary played a role in that outcome
