Two Nigerians Nabbed in India for Alleged Involvement in International ‘Solar Spider’ Cybercrime Network
Indian authorities have arrested two Nigerians, Modebe Joseph (42) and Sunday Okonkwo (35), in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, for their alleged involvement in an international cybercrime syndicate known as “Solar Spider.”
The suspects were part of a gang that targeted cooperative banks with weak cybersecurity systems. They reportedly siphoned off around ₹7 crore (approximately N1 billion) from one bank during the weekend of March 7–8, 2026, when the bank was closed, making detection difficult.
The arrests were carried out by the Cyber Crime Police Station in a joint operation with other security agencies. Deputy Commissioner of Police Shavya Goyal said the duo are linked to a wider criminal network operating in Nigeria and South Africa.
